Unlock your grassland's full potential with VIXERAN®
VIXERAN® delivers consistent yield increases and superior grass quality through natural nitrogen fixation. Backed by multi-year trials across the UK, Ireland, and Nordic regions, VIXERAN® offers proven results you can count on.
What is VIXERAN®?
VIXERAN® is a biofertiliser containing nitrogen-fixing bacteria (Azotobacter salinestris CECT 9690), a naturally occurring bacterium that converts atmospheric nitrogen into plant-available forms.
VIXERAN® colonises leaves, roots, and the rhizosphere, delivering a natural and sustainable nitrogen supply to your grass throughout the growing season. VIXERAN® complements your existing fertiliser programme without the environmental impact of synthetic inputs.
VIXERAN® is approved for use on both organic and conventional grassland.
Why should I use VIXERAN® on my grassland?
Natural nitrogen boost
Harnesses atmospheric nitrogen without synthetic inputs. VIXERAN® works alongside your existing fertiliser programme to maximise efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Proven return on investment
With a 3.2:1 return on investment, VIXERAN® more than pays for itself. Every application delivers measurable yield increases that reduce feed costs and increase milk and meat yields.
Simple to use
VIXERAN® is easy to use with standard spraying equipment and can be tank mixed with other crop protection products, such as herbicides.
Why VIXERAN® works in grassland: The nitrogen sweet spot
Nitrogen is the primary driver of grass yield; silage crops demand approximately 2.5 kg N/ha per day during active growth. But getting nitrogen application right is a delicate balance:
Too much nitrogen produces grass with depressed sugar levels, reducing palatability and fermentation quality in the clamp.
Too little nitrogen inevitably compromises both yield potential and protein content, limiting nutritional performance.
The VIXERAN® advantage:
Unlike conventional fertilisers that release nitrogen rapidly, VIXERAN® provides a controlled, extended release that matches crop demand throughout the growing season. This prevents the sharp spikes in nitrogen availability that depress sugar content, while ensuring the crop never runs short during critical growth periods.
When integrated into an optimised nitrogen strategy, VIXERAN® allows you to increase yields without sacrificing forage quality, delivering more tonnage with the palatability and nutritional value your livestock need.
Proven performance: Trial results
Multi-year trials across the UK, Ireland and the Nordic countries demonstrate consistent performance. Across all trials, application of VIXERAN® at spring re-growth shows the best return on investment.
UK NIAB trial 2024
An independent UK trial by NIAB demonstrated that a single application of VIXERAN® at spring regrowth increased total dry matter yield by 0.39 t/ha. The boost came in the critical first cut, with an impressive 20% yield increase over the untreated control, delivering more high-quality forage when you need it most.
Ireland trials 2024
Two Irish trials in 2024 demonstrate that timing is critical. VIXERAN® applied at spring regrowth delivered the strongest response at +2.65t DM/ha over the control, translating to an ROI of 3.2:1. Benefits continued across subsequent cuts, with a double application strategy yielding +3.33 t DM/ha in total. Protein analysis confirmed quality was maintained alongside yield gains.
How to optimise the application of VIXERAN® in grassland
VIXERAN® contains a living organism; therefore, this application advice is designed to support bacterial activity and a quick and effective colonisation.
| Product type | Biological foliar product, biofertiliser. Solid powder. |
| Dose | 50 g/ha. |
| Equipment | Standard boom sprayer or knapsack sprayer. |
| Preparation | It is best practice to premix wettable powders. Add 1 sachet of VIXERAN® to min. 1.25L of water. Warmer water (+ 5°C) will make it dissolve quicker. VIXERAN® can be added directly to the induction hopper with the recommended volume of water if required, but ensure it is poured in gradually to avoid clumping. |
| Tank Mix | VIXERAN® can be tank-mixed with other crop protection products for convenience, but check compatibility prior to use. When tank mixing, dilute other products with water first before adding the VIXERAN®. |
| Temperatures | To ensure successful colonisation, the crop should be actively growing. The ideal temperature is above 10-12°C. The minimum air temperature before and after application is 5°C. |
| Timing | The ideal timing is early crop stages. Covering both foliage and soil is preferable as the bacteria colonise leaves, roots and rhizosphere. Apply during the day when the plant’s stomata are open. |
| Water volume | Use a water rate of 100-200 l/ha and a medium droplet size to ensure even distribution across foliage and soil. |
| Organic | Certified for use in organic production systems. Consult your certification body prior to use. |
| Additional information | Apply with no frost for 5 days before and 5 days post application. |
A new way to make your forage production more efficient and profitable
Forage production is the foundation of successful milk and meat production. VIXERAN® means that you can add nitrogen to your pasture in a new way to increase yield and improve profitability. In situations with forage shortages and long transports, VIXERAN® can be a very valuable tool.

Apply in early April when grass begins active growth and soil temperature is consistently above 10-12°C. A follow up application a week after the 1st cut has shown further improvements in yield. nitrogen, making it an essential tool for efficient nitrogen management in farming.
