Staff raise £3,200 donation for The Welcome Centre

Employees at Syngenta Huddersfield Manufacturing Centre, who are members of Unite the Union, were offered a small personal gift at Christmas through their Workplace Branch. The site Reps gave members an option to receive a gift voucher or to donate the cash equivalent to charity. A generous £1,600 was raised for ‘The Welcome Centre, foodbank and more’. Syngenta kindly agreed to match Unite’s donation and cheques were presented for £3,200.

Syngenta Senior Unite Representative, Sean McGuin said “We gave our members a choice of a small gift or a donation to charity and we’re delighted to have raised £1,600 which has been matched by the company, to make a total donation of £3,200. The Welcome Centre provides vital services to people in crisis and in the last 12 months, have provided a total of 368,385 meals to individuals facing food poverty in South Kirklees. In total, 5,999 individuals—including 2,377 children—have received the support they needed during difficult times. In addition to this, the team have delivered 13,070 advice sessions to those accessing Welcome Centre services. We’re very happy that we have been able to make a donation and help a little.”
