Yellow rust is becoming more unpredictable and last season it was seen across the country on many different varieties. Most varieties do not carry juvenile plant resistance and adult plant resistance may not kick in until mid-season by which time the disease may have already had a big impact.
Brown rust is more susceptible to cold weather than Yellow rust but is still being picked up with recent mild conditions. It requires higher temperatures for sporulation of 15-22oC with high relative humidity so will be more of an issue mid to late summer, unless we have a very warm spring.
