Crop painted at T0 timing
Crop painted at T0 timing

The concept was thought up by a colleague of ours a couple of years ago - he wanted to be able to look back at trial results and know which leaves he had hit with a fungicide spray to aid his interpretation of the results. Since then we have taken the idea and run with it at our Innovation Centres, as shown above.

At Rougham, a couple of weeks ago we dissected plants to decide if the T0 timing was upon us. We sprayed T0 on 31 March when we thought leaf 4 was fully out and the tip of leaf 3 was peeping through but it's hard to tell when the flag leaf is so tiny at this stage. By using the spray paint at the same time as we sprayed the T0, we will be able to see if we were right when the crop comes to ear as the sprayed leaves will remain blue, and new growth will be green.

Give it a go on your farm and see how accurate you have been with fungicide timings this year. Upload photos to twitter and see how other growers are getting on by referencing @SyngentaCropsUK and #timeitright.
