Arable Horizons - Building resilience into on-farm water management

This year's Farmers Weekly Arable Horizons event, in association with Syngenta, addresses the hugely topical and increasingly complex issue of managing water resources - both drought shortages and flooding excess.
Hosted at the 4,000 hectare Euston Estate, the Building resilience into on-farm water management programme features the latest science and technology to help crops and growers to cope, along with the practical applications being instigated on the farm (pictured below), which includes over 2500 ha of in-hand farmed land.
Syngenta Technical Manager, Dave King, will be presenting findings from the Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Farming Initiative relative to establishment systems and managing field conditions.

Farmers Weekly Editor, Karl Schneider, said: "UK agriculture istill requires a huge amount of water to produce the nation’s food. Moreover, whilst water shortages pose a challenge to UK growers – equally damaging are extreme weather events.
"This Arable Horizons will focus on what practical steps can be taken now to prepare for a less secure future in terms of our water resources."
"From maximising establishment in tough conditions, to selection of robust varieties, to understanding the impact of water management on pests and disease pressures, it will provide a valuable insight and important solutions."
