If you are growing spring malting barley in the South and West, this is an event not to be missed. We bring together expertise in the subjects of crop breeding, crop management, crop marketing and (vitally) the requirements of the end user. The perspective ranges from local to global as we review and learn from trials information gathered over several years on our own soil types in Hampshire, Wiltshire, and Dorset, but also consider the global forces which shape the market we seek to satisfy.
Contributors will include –
Jack Watts (Head of Economic Strategy - AHDB) - will discuss global and UK markets.
Jonathan Roberts (Procurement Manager - Boortmalt) & Sam Colman (Global Key Account Manager – Boortmalt) - will share their thoughts and assess the opportunities for UK growers in the current market whilst also commenting on how changes to global demand for malting barley will influence the industry’s direction.
Kathryn Hamlen (Seeds Marketing Manager – Syngenta) - will update us on current and new varieties in the pipeline and give her thoughts on what is driving variety choice on farm.
Jonathan Arnold (Director - Robin Appel Ltd) - will summarise the global malting supply, current markets, and prospects for 2024.
Joe Bagshaw (Field Technical Specialist - Syngenta) & Rob Jackson (Seeds Technical Specialist - Syngenta) - will review local trial results with a focus on nitrogen, fungicides and biostimulants, as well as look at the options available in line with new SFI incentives and how these may impact growing malting barley in the future.
We look forward to seeing you there.
