Please read these Rules carefully. “Competition” means the Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year (FSOOTY) 2024 competition.

“Syngenta” and “we/us/our” means Syngenta UK Limited reg’d co. no. 00849037. By entering the Competition, you (the “Entrant”) accept and agree to comply with these Rules. In all cases our decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

1. Eligibility Requirements

1.1 The Competition is open to residents of the UK only, excluding employees of Syngenta and their immediate families and anyone else professionally connected with this Competition.

1.2 Entrants must be 18 years old or over and we reserve the right to request proof of age from any potential prize winners.

1.3 Entrants must be bona fide farm sprayer operators in UK involved with arable crops or field-scale vegetables. No account is taken of product allegiance.

1.4 Multiple entries are not permitted.

1.5 Past finalists in a Syngenta Farm Spray Operator of the Year competition are eligible but past winners are not eligible.

2. The Competition

2.1 Round 1 of the Competition opens on Sunday 1st Oct 2023 and entries must be received before midnight on Thursday 18th January 2024. Late entries will not be accepted and it’s not possible to progress to Round 2 without a valid entry into Round 1.

2.2 Round 1 comprises 3 questions which the Entrant must answer. The Competition will be judged and all Entrants who answer the Round 1 questions successfully will be emailed a further series of questions for Round 2. Answers to Round 2 questions must be received on or before Thursday 29th February 2024. Late entries will not be accepted and it’s not possible to progress to the final without a valid entry into Round 2.

2.3 The judges will assess Round 2 entries and select the three best entries at their discretion to proceed to the final.

2.4 The finalists will be invited to be assessed on farm carrying out spray operations at a time, date and location to be mutually agreed, subject to the availability of the judges. It is the finalist’s responsibility to ensure they have permission for the judges to enter the farm for the purpose of the Competition. This final assessment must be carried out before 12th April 2024. If, for any reason, the final on-farm assessment does not take place before that date, then the finalist will not be eligible to win the Competition.  

2.5 The judges will select the winner of the final by 19th April 2024. Our decision concerning all matters relating to the Competition, including the determination of the winner, will be final and binding.

2.6 If an Entrant does not wish to continue in the Competition, they can withdraw at any point by emailing becki.pirie@syngenta.com.

3. How to Enter

3.1 No fee or purchase necessary. To enter, Entrants must submit their entries by the deadlines set out above. It is a condition of entry that Entrants provide their name, phone number and email address so that we can contact the successful Entrants.

3.2 No other forms of entry will be accepted.

3.3 We accept no liability for lost, late or misdirected entries, for technical failures of any kind or for any human error which may occur in the receipt or processing of the entries.

4. Prizes

4.1 Prizes for each of the finalists in the final are: A pair of FSOOTY branded overalls, a certificate, a trophy, 2 tickets to the Cereals event planned to be on 11th and 12th June 2024, hotel accommodation for the finalist and their “plus one” guest for both days and dinner with Syngenta representatives on the night before the opening of Cereals 2024 Approximate value of prizes £500 per finalist. All finalists are responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel to and from the Cereals 2024 event.

4.2 The overall winner’s prize is a trip to the Agritechnica event 2025 in Hannover, Germany of approximate value £1,000 comprising entry tickets to the Agritechnica event 2025, return flights for the winner from a UK airport to Hannover, travel and accommodation on dates to be agreed. Meals when with Syngenta hosts will also be included. Other expenses will be at the winner’s own cost.

4.3 There are no cash alternatives and the prize(s) are not transferrable.

4.4 In the event of unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to provide alternative prize(s) of equal or greater value.

4.5 The winners will be responsible for any income tax or other taxes or payments due as a result of winning a prize.

4.5 The winner will be responsible for: ensuring they have a valid travel document (passport and VISA if required); checking and complying with governmental travel regulations at their own cost; and obtaining their own personal travel and health insurance.

4.6 If a prize winner is not able to travel for any reason on the relevant dates, the prize will be forfeited.

4.7 We accept no liability for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by Entrants as a result of entering the Competition or accepting any prize. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall exclude the liability of Syngenta for death, personal injury as a result of our negligence or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

5. Data protection and notifying the winner(s)

5.1 We are the data controller and will use your personal data only to administer the Competition. All use of your personal data will be in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and our privacy policy, which is available at https://www.syngenta.co.uk/content/privacy-policy .

5.2 The winners will be notified by email.

5.3 If we are unable to contact any prize winner or do not receive a reply within 2 weeks the prize will be forfeited. At our discretion, we may select a new prize winner from the remaining entries.

5.4 Losing entries will not receive any notification.

6. Changes to Rules

6.1 If, due to events beyond our reasonable control, we decide to modify the Rules at any time, we will notify Entrants as soon as is practically possible.

6.2 We reserve the right to change, suspend or cancel the Competition without specifying the reasons and without incurring liability as a result.

7. General

7.1 This Competition and these rules are governed by the laws of England and the courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
