Breeders Insights

FAIRING has been bred specifically for the Scottish high nitrogen Grain Distilling market. The variety demonstrates competitive yields across all regions and is also the earliest maturing spring barley on the 2017 AHDB Recommended List. FAIRING has excellent grain quality, high specifc weight and very low screenings. Agronomically, FAIRING has a very good disease profile with an 8 rating for both Mildew and Rhyncosporium which is the highest rating for Rhyncosporium on the Recommended List.

In Syngenta trials over the past 2 years, FAIRING has shown an increasing yield response to both late applications and increasing rates of total Nitrogen, without impacting on percentage grain Nitrogen. These increases have been higher than the only approved grain distilling variety in both yield and % grain Nitrogen.
