The importance of biologicals in agriculture

Farmers face many challenges. Temperature extremes, restrictions on the use of chemical fertilisers and increasing demands for transparency and quality in the supply chain. Today’s farmers need new solutions to help them grow more food in a sustainable way whilst maximising yields.

Developed using new technology that works in harmony with nature, Biologicals from Syngenta are an innovative solution to the challenge of increasing productivity while farming in a regenerative way.

What are biologicals and why use them?

Biologicals is the umbrella term for a range of products which are made from natural compounds or living organisms. When applied to plants, seeds, or soil, they can improve soil health, control pests and diseases, support the plant’s natural processes, and create a more resilient and profitable crop. We like to think of it as giving nature a helping hand to do what it does best.

We offer a range of biological products to support your crop which include:

Biostimulants

Natural compounds applied to plants, seeds, or soil to enhance the plant’s natural processes. Benefitting nutrient use efficiency or tolerance to abiotic stress.

Biofertilisers

A type of biostimulant consisting of bacteria, algae, or fungi, these products are used for fixing nitrogen, improving nutrient availability and uptake, and promoting plant growth and soil health.

Biocontrols

Products containing naturally occurring materials that are used for biotic stress management in controlling diseases, pests, nematodes and weeds.

What are the benefits?

Biostimulants

  • Improved yield quality-quantity in a sustainable way (yield gap recovery)
  • Improved nutrient uptake in case of a fertilizer shortage or demanded does rate reductions
  • Soil preservation to counteract degradation due to several factors (tillage, chemical fertilizers, mono-culture and others)
  • Better recovery from abiotic stress (abiotic stress issues are increasing)

Biocontrols

  • Sustainability of crop protection practices
  • Preserve efficacy of disease and pest control through Integrated Pest Management
  • Meet the industry guidelines that supplement government regulations

Syngenta Biologicals Innovation powered by nature

Syngenta biologicals brings science-based innovation powered by nature to support farmers to continue to grow resilient and profitable crops.

Why we exist

To stand by farmers and help them face the global food challenge, making farming more profitable and sustainable. We create innovative solutions aimed at nurturing plant and soil health while securing productivity, in order to preserve and improve our world for future generations.

What we do

Use our expertise to research nature, studying its patterns, designs and blueprints. With that knowledge, we develop products that stimulate the natural processes that benefit plant and soil health while helping them face adverse factors and conditions.

Who we are

Innovators powered by nature, trusted advisors for farmers, partners of choice, paving the way for balanced and regenerative ways of farming by leveraging our deep understanding of science and nature.
