Research and technology in the UK

Our sizeable UK research and technology operations are critical to the success of Syngenta. They play a vital role in the discovery and development of products to help protect the world's crops from the ravages of insects, pests and diseases.

We invest more than $2 million per day in our research activities. The company's goal is to develop products with the lowest possible risks to the environment, the user and the consumer. Syngenta has more than 4,000 dedicated research and development staff around the world whose aim is to ensure the company continues to provide a stream of innovative products. These research activities are concentrated in five key areas:
  • The discovery and development of new crop protection chemicals.
  • Research focused on supporting and further developing the existing product range (seeds and crop protection).
  • The development of new traits that will enhance crops - including traits to improve yield, tolerance to pests and disease, improve nutritional value, add new health benefits or improve processing characteristics.
  • The integration of chemical and trait based solutions.
  • Licensing and collaboration in pursuit of new business opportunities based on Syngenta proprietary technology and core skills.

As the demand for more food of greater variety and higher quality grows, Syngenta scientists will continue to play an important part in the development of products that can be used as part of sustainable agricultural systems.
