Over the past century, advances in medicine have dramatically changed the way we live. However, new challenges continue to emerge and there remain a tremendous number of unmet medical needs. Biopharmaceuticals - protein therapies including antibodies and enzymes – hold great promise as a way to address many of these.
Syngenta biopharma is a business development unit of Syngenta. It has a knowledgeable and dedicated team of professionals who are building on our years of experience in plant biotechnology, bio-safety, pre-clinical and regulatory affairs to fully realize the potential of biopharmaceuticals. Our team works closely with academia and other biotechnology companies to help us achieve our goal of developing improved therapies that will meet some of the medical needs of the 21st century.
Given their complexity, biopharmaceuticals need to be synthesized by living organisms. Microbes or mammalian cell cultures have traditionally been used to produce them, but this system has some inherent limitations. Syngenta biopharma believes that biomanufacturing in plants can offer some unique advantages for production of some of these biopharmaceuticals. |
