Insects such as caterpillars, greenfly and other aphids can dramatically reduce crop yields and quality through their feeding. Insecticides help minimise this damage by controlling insect pests, many of which can be potentially devastating.
Insecticides also play an important role in Public Health, targeting insects that spread debilitating diseases (such as mosquitoes, which carry malaria).
In certain crops, particularly those grown in controlled environments (e.g. in glasshouses), it is possible to control insect pests by introducing other insects and mites that are natural predators of the pests. Syngenta Bioline is a producer of high quality products containing these beneficial insects and mites. These products are often used in combination with insecticide sprays that are selective so that the spray does no, or relatively little, harm to the beneficial insects.

Because of differences in the crops grown, the weed, pest and disease problems encountered, and regulatory processes, the range of available Syngenta products varies country by country.
