Each day, our scientists are looking for ways to develop new products to help farmers across the world protect their crops from the ravages of attacks by pests, weeds and diseases. However, the formulation of a product contributes just as much to its ability to control the pest, weed or disease as the biological effects of the active ingredient itself.
Our scientists are using innovative technologies, such as microencapsulation, to enhance existing products and to increase the efficacy of new products. By packaging the pesticide into microscopic capsules, liquids can become powders, flammable solvent can be removed, unpleasant smells can magically vanish and product effectiveness and safety can be improved.
Syngenta is a world leader in microencapsulation technologies and pioneered their application in crop protection products. For example, one use of our technology allows for a long-lasting insecticide treatment for bednets and curtains in tropical countries. This is playing a key role in the battle to reduce the spread of tropical diseases like malaria by protecting people from the mosquitoes that spread the disease.
For a more extensive explanation of this innovative technology that is based on Syngenta science download our special Agriscience newsletter on the subject.
