A better butty

Gallant - Syngenta's new wheat variety

Syngenta’s newest high performing wheat variety, Gallant, means a lighter loaf and a crispier crust.

Gallant has excellent breadmaking qualities. It produces a dough that isn’t too sticky and bakes a light textured bread - all thanks to a high protein content and Hagberg Falling number.

Gallant is not only good for bread, it’s also a good choice for growers. The variety has exceptional early maturity compared to other milling wheat, which enables the grower to harvest early - especially useful in the typical English 'wet' summer. Gallant also has a good disease resistance profile, stiff straw (which means it is less likely to fall over in bad weather) and can be grown from Landsend to Edinburgh, on any soil type.

Gallant consistently performed well throughout 2006, 2007 and 2008 - three very different growing seasons - making it onto the HGCA* 2009/10 Recommended List and gaining nabim (National Association of British and Irish Growers) group 1 approval, the highest accolade achievable.
