The SAFFIE (Sustainable Arable Farming For an Improved Environment) project is an arable sustainable link project between research organisations, farmers and the agricultural industry. Syngenta, along with other groups, is a research partner and industrial sponsor of the SAFFIE project.
The SAFFIE project explores whether manipulating vegetation architecture, in crop and uncropped areas in fields, will increase farmland biodiversity. By enhancing the diversity, abundance and availability of food sources and nesting areas these management approaches should benefit farmland birds.
The SAFFIE project aims to establish causal relationships between the most promising techniques and environmental impacts and to demonstrate the effective integration of the techniques on commercial farms. The project will quantify the economic and biological value of management practices; it will also provide practical guidance on implementation for farmers and their advisors.
