Habitat:
Urban wildlife centre created in an industrial estate.
Description:
Jupiter Urban Wildlife Garden has been developed as a demonstration site to show how urban green spaces can be created from wasteland, and how green amenity areas, including gardens, can be managed to meet both human and wildlife needs.
Jupiter consists of formal garden areas that demonstrate techniques which individuals can use in their own gardens to benefit wildlife, habitat creation areas where new wildlife habitats have been created from scratch and now abound with wildlife, and areas where nature has been allowed to develop under its own power.
Important for:
Amphibians, birds, butterflies, insects, flowers, plants
Best time to visit:
May to July: Wildflowers
Points of interest:
The site is now home to hundreds of native trees, over 350 species of wildflower, a large and diverse population of invertebrates, and 14 varieties of butterfly.
Syngenta & Jupiter:
Syngenta Grangemouth is actively involved with Jupiter, and has supported the wildlife garden since it was established in the early 90’s. Today we still support Jupiter financially and are involved with events such as celebrating our Syngenta 5th birthday where a tree and plaque were gifted to the wildlife garden. Syngenta Grangemouth sponsored new information boards for the Jupiter garden and were also represented at the official reopening of the garden in September 2006.
Further information on Jupiter can be found at www.swt.org.uk
The garden is supported by British Trust for Conservation Volunteers
