Since 2004, you could have filled your car with biodiesel made from Syngenta varieties when you visited a petrol station thanks our UK Seeds business.
UK growers who grow the high yielding available oilseed rape hybrids Royal and Nelson can sell the harvested crop to an end-user for inclusion in a biodiesel blend. This technology is helping produce a sustainable alternative that will help reduce our reliance on oil and helps meet some of the environmental targets set by the Government.
In future, growers could also have access to more high yielding varieties from our Seeds business, which is developing types of crop that have a fatty acid spectrum, conducive for use in biodiesel production.
The environmental and economic opportunities for biodiesel have been discussed for some time, this venture is now turning those opportunities into reality for farmers. The scheme is designed to provide growers with a new outlet for oilseed rape oil, a new market for their product and a firmer prospect for their crop.
Another example of Syngenta technology in action.
