At Syngenta we believe in making a positive contribution to the communities where our sites are located. In the UK we work hard to achieve this by committing resources and skills to local projects. We put particular emphasis on science, the environment and education; areas where we have expertise and which matter to our business.
Our policy was summed up in the Syngenta corporate social responsibility report, 2003: "Syngenta and its people are deeply involved as part of their local communities, donating time, expertise and money to activities benefiting agriculture, science, education and the environment. Syngenta has developed a sponsorship policy to set the broad framework of community donations. We use sponsorship to support programs in science, agriculture and community activities, with a particular emphasis on education.
What this means on the ground is that Syngenta employees are involved in many community projects around the UK. For example, in Huddersfield in Yorkshire, the site of one of our manufacturing centres, we support a local environmental scheme that is improving an area for the benefit of local schools. Also in Huddersfield we support Dalton Bank Nature Reserve while we have backed the Jupiter Urban Wildlife Centre near our Grangemouth site in Scotland for more than a decade.
One of the key aims of our UK operations is to manage their activities to meet the needs of their local community. Donations to local schemes are an important part of this, but we also recognise that active involvement can often achieve much more for the community, whether through the time and skills of our people or by making particular resources available. Throughout the business there are exceptional people who find the time to do much to help others.
Given on the right are some examples of current local community activities. |
